Nnamabia’s decision to stand up for the old guy in prison with him is a powerful one because he rejects his own safety in order to stand up for what he believes is right. Speaking out against abuse, even in difficult situations, is the right decision in most scenarios. Despite Nnamabia’s good intentions, the guards (who will not tolerate insubordination) decide to punish Nnamabia. This is not the correct ethical decision because these guards know that Nnamabia is right in standing up against their abuse. Furthermore, when Nnamabia tells his family about how the old prisoner’s mistreatment is bothering him, his father decides to talk to the jailer in order to help the prisoner. This was the right decision because he is trying to help someone in need. Despite his desire to help, the guard places his own needs above by saying he could loose his job. This is not a good decision because he is fully aware of this prisoner’s maltreatment and chooses to help in no
