Nmc Student Reflection

As a new student in the college world, there are some things that I have been made aware of on the topic of your counseling services. I feel that you may be aware of the mental health crises on campuses across America, but not how drastic and impactful this issue is to the NMC students. As a concerned student, I feel that you are unaware of the impact you have to make changes to our campus. Which can help eliminate some contributing factors to the anxiety and depression students are facing. Making a simple change such as, hiring more campus counselors is enough to make a difference. I am aware of the small cost impact this will make for the school, but this needs to change for the wellbeing of the students. If this change is made then you will be able to see drastic changes to your students such as, test score rises, and improved focus in class. At the moment you have two counselors, Paul Kolak or Tarah Elhardan, even if they are the best counselors in the world, NMC has over 5,000 students and two councillors can’t give the support the students need. …show more content…
At NMC you have two counselors for 5000 students. For the number of students we have, at least twenty counselors are needed in order to help the students. Although the current services may be available, they are not readily known. While speaking with other NMC students, they agree with the fact that you need to at the very least make the presence of the current counselors known. Not only will making the presence of your counsellors known; but as a critical public link to these students, you have the power to make the difference for them. I wish you would utilize this proposal, but at the very least, take what I have said with an open

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University(FAMU) is listed as one of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU) in the nation. For years, FAMU has held a great reputation and foundation for all HBCU’s. Recently, FAMU has just moved up from the number ten spot to the number seven spot in National Rankings. I know all of this sounds good, but do people really know what is going on inside the campus or should I say inside the students’ minds? There have been multiple cases over the past years, where students complain about their voices not being heard.…

I agree that the role of individual counseling in today’s schools fits with the ASCA National Model because it guide us school counselors to have the same approach. The ASCA model is based on foundation (what the student will know), delivery system (how the school counselor will plan and deliver), Management system, and accountability. Inside the delivery system, we’ll find programs components like responsive services. This is one of the programs that will help us decide if we need to provide individual assistance, small groups, group counseling, consultation, referral, peer facilitation and crisis response. It is important to remember that direct services is the one serving the students, and the indirect is the one focusing in the school…

While this topic is mildly addressed in the previous point, I feel as though this is an important topic that deserves recognition in its own paragraph. Unintentionally, by always being on the run and constantly cramming for that spectacular test score, an excessive number of students are beginning to have psychological impediments. Some of the more commonly brought up concerns that I personally observe is crippling anxiety and in fewer cases, depression. Due to social media, it is widely known that college students are one of the most likely groups of people to get diagnosed with a mental health condition. The main issue that faces students with a mental health condition is the stigma attached, often they will be too afraid to get diagnosed.…

As you have noticed, there are a couple things I would like to discuss with you connecting how we should support the students here at ALC. We need to find the proper ways to help them academically and emotionally. When teachers give out work, usually students don’t want to do it. The answer as to why is because students want work that connects to their lives. Something that’s rationale and relatable.…

Define the problem – A problem I am aware of in my community at UT, that interested me, is the need to implement a way to help students achieve academically and socially. I believe it is the university’s responsibility to keep students excited, involved, and engaged, both inside and outside of the classroom. I feel like a lot is expected of college students, meanwhile juggling their own responsibilities, they work hard, stressful hours that can be tough. They deserve all the benefits and extras that a college campus can offer.…

To narrow my focus, I looked at a number of articles, online magazines, and electronic journals. These included topics such preschool to kindergarten transitions, teacher assistants and driver’s education classes, being a teacher in your mid-career, school shootings, and using technology in the classroom. The vast majorities of these sources are from the ProQuest database and range from articles, magazines, scholarly journals, to Professional journals.…

I sincerely believe that today’s educator has a unique opportunity to impact the future of our diverse world. Professional school counselors are educators who share in this great task by designing and implementing comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs that champion the success of all students; however, the school counselor must first take the time to have clarity about their school counseling philosophy and mission statement for the school counseling program. In this paper, it is my hope to clearly articulate my school counseling philosophy, as well as my personal mission statement as an aspiring professional school counselor. School Counseling Philosophy For a comprehensive school counseling program to be effective, there…

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…
