Batson We toured Batson’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) first. I arrived late to the tour so I almost missed the NICU. What I seen of it was that it was very interesting, and the babies looked super fragile. I was thinking the whole time that I should keep my mouth shut and my hands to myself because I would break the little babies. The NICU Occupational Therapist (OT) was very informative about what each baby diagnoses, and what kind of treatments they were receiving through occupational therapy. The portion that I saw of the NICU made me realize that it was not the place for me because I am not careful enough to handle a fragile baby, but they were super cute. The next therapist took us …show more content…
I never knew that we had places like this located in Mississippi. When I first arrived on to their campus I pulled up and noticed three very small rundown buildings. We walked into the preschool building where the OT greeted us and took us to the work building. They showed us where adults with disabilities come to work or play. They are allowed to assemble items like a factory and receive money for the amount of items they assemble. I personally have never seen anything even similar to this before I was given the chance to go on this tour. The facilities were very rundown and really needed some renovations, but they are base off of donations which limits them to what they can or cannot do. Also the work building of Willowood had very limited occupational therapy intervention if any. We also saw the preschool part of Willowood which is a great opportunity for someone searching for a preschool that has an occupational therapist helping out. The occupational therapist at Willowood has a lot of involvement in the preschool and attempts to work with all the children there even if they have no diagnosis. Also the OT had a really nice gym which had a lot of sensory and treatment activates that would be helpful for any child. I really enjoyed my time at Willowood because it was very informative and allowed me to see an aspect of Mississippi that I never knew existed. I would never work their either

In order to take care of these ill people, particularly infants, it is important to not get too attached because there is no telling what could happen to that child. Overall, I believe that this book was on the reading list because it educates the readers by passionately allowing us to get an inside look on what really occurs in the NICU and how much health care professionals are dedicated to helping these infants and their…

This program was a three-semester long class in which allowed you to earn your certified nursing assistance license. I had heard so many great things about this program and wanting to be a nurse in the future I wanted to have my CNA license as base to start my nursing career.…

I observed another patient play with moldable putty that had tiny objects in it. They had to use their fingers and trying to pull the objects out to increase strength in their hands and fingers. I got to observe Mrs. Wallace help a patient with her shower, which was neat, because I never thought that it would be a part of what an OTA performs. I had a great learning experience at Crystal Oaks and it really showed me, that I really want to be an OTA!…

During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In each department, I was able to observe the daily tasks of a nurse and how they interact with different patients. Not only did I job shadow nurses, but I also learned how to different procedures, such as: how to replace a trachea device, take blood pressures, insert feeding tubes, and how to inject vitamins and foods into feeding tubes. Through this, I assured myself that I really wanted to be a nurse.…

The film In the Womb gives the audience much perspective and insight into the complicated process of pregnancy. As defined by the textbook, “vaginal intercourse is the insertion of the penis into the vagina,” which is the only kind of sexual activity that can lead to conception. It is astounding that upon ejaculation, 500 million of the smallest type of human cell travel to the fallopian tubes within the female, but the body ensures that only one sperm can become attached. This is provided that the male is not too old, and is in good health. Prior to ten weeks of pregnancy, the fetus is able to be seen through an ultrasound.…

I had to cope with not being able to hold my twins. Instead, I would talk to them and touch their tiny bodies through the arm-holes of the incubator. When I was finally allowed to hold them, I realized that even the simple task of holding something so small and delicate was a challenge. With the assistance of the nurses, and a technique known as “kangarooing,” whereby skin to skin contact is used, my babies were sleeping on my chest in no time. After the twins and I mastered bottle feedings, I had to learn how to get them to latch onto my breast for their feedings.…
