Teens become addicted to nicotine despite knowing that cigarette smoking is harmful to them in many ways. Many young teens understand the fact that cigarette smoking is harmful, but they do not understand the dangerous risk. Many teenagers are experiencing peer pressure at such young ages. Also, many teens feel they want to be able to fit in with a certain crowd of people. Another reason teenagers becomes addicted to nicotine despite knowing that cigarette smoking is harmful is due many teenagers are immature. Therefore, many teens feel they will not get addicted or they will not suffer from life-threatening illnesses down the road.
According to the information from the Day In A Life document and NIDA website, teenagers engage in drug use from ages 12 to 17. Many teenagers engage more in cigarette usage and alcohol. As for drug usage, teenagers engaged more in any illicit drug. “As more as 4,365 teenagers consumed illicit drug usage” (NSDUH, 2008). These reports have been reported for the first time on an average day. Teenagers who have used drugs on an average day showed different studies. Many teenagers from ages 14-19 may experience in different substances. Many teenagers also go through a different series of mixed emotions. For instance, teenagers can may experience depression or anxiety. When a teenager is suffering from different mental disorders, he or she is more likely to experience with different drug usage. Teenagers who suffer from different mental disorders, may depend on different drugs or alcohol. Relying on different drugs may help a teenager cope with a psychological he or she is facing, but they are unaware of the dangers that may follow
