2.3.5.3.3 Stage 57
NF Stage 57 corresponds to a 41 day old tadpole as can be seen in Figure2.3. They have a pigment free spot that appears above the frontal organ and the angle of the elbow form an angle greater than 90 degrees. Their fingers are now seven times their breadth and are stretched out. The tadpole …show more content…
The olfactory nerve is longer than the olfactory bulb. Guanophores start appearing on the lower jaw with the opening of the gill chambers being wide. The distal half of the fingers on an outstretched forelimb extend beyond the base of the hindlimb. The anterior border of the adult skin area on the abdomen is sharper, reaching toward the heart (Nieuwkoop & Faber, 1994). Figure 2.6: Stage 60, 46 day old tadpole (Nieuwkoop & Faber, 1994).
2.3.5.3.7 Stage 61
NF Stage 61 corresponds to a 48 day old tadpole as can be seen in Figure2.7. The head has narrowed, with the tentacles much shorter and curved backwards. The length of the olfactory nerve is equal to the diameter of the olfactory bulb. The fourth arterial arch can be seen just in front of the forelimb. The openings of the gill chambers are narrowed. The forelimbs are at the level of the posterior half of the heart, with the adult skin area on the abdomen covering the posterior half of the heart and the fins significantly reduced (Nieuwkoop & Faber, 1994).
