I saw a wide range of babies; for example, a nicu baby with achondroplasia to a completely healthy, smiling 2-hour old baby. Throughout the semester, I learned how to work on assessing the babies heart rate, as this is difficult at first. My strategy is to quietly count under my breath, will lightly taping my finger. Looking back, I remember I spent the majority of my labor with a nurse, not with my doctor; however, my doctor helped me throughout the entire delivery process and had a manageable and non-medicated birth to my first child. Also, back then, like you, I was young and was not informed about midwives. If I would have known, probably I would have considered having a midwife, someone who will be there during my labor, however, would prefer to give birth in a hospital as well, since I believe that hospital is cleaner and the doctors are able to find quicker and clever ways to deal any serious complications that might…

Infant sleep disorders: Infant sleep is very different from the sleep of young children or adults. It has a high percentage of REM sleep that fills 50% of the total sleep time, and sleep occurs in brief episodes throughout the 24-hour day. Approximately two-thirds of the day is spent in sleep.
