Although there isn’t a cohesive NYU campus, the academic buildings and residence halls surround Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. NYU’s location is perfect because there is so much to do in the city. The campus is around a 10 minute walk from most residence halls, but NYU also offers a free trolley to take students from their halls to campus. Most clothing stores are spread out around New York, but there is a shopping mall called Limelight in an old church with three stories of designer shops and restaurants. NYU has its own supermarket, Westside Market, near campus open 24 hours a day. The campus has many theaters, although the most popular is the Skirball to showcase music, dance, and plays. NYU’s location is also great for vacation spots: the Hamptons, Nantucket Island, Boston, Philadelphia, and the New York wilderness.
NYU is known for their Liberal Arts, more specifically their College of Arts and Sciences and undergraduate Journalism major. The Journalism major is individually tailored, as you can choose the broadcasting program or the print program(which is what I'm interested in). New York University requires its Journalism students to have a double major, so I’m interested in also majoring in Sociology. As an underclassman at NYU, you are required to take Cultural and Social Foundations, a combination of history courses set to explore historical literature, arts and music, philosophy, religion, and theory.
