Later in life, when Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy go out and find her, it is revealed that Madame took the art to prove that clones have a heart and soul, just like normal humans.
• Miss Emily: Miss Emily was the head guardian of Hailsham, when it was still being used. When Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy go to find her later in the future, they find out that she was an advocate for the humane treatment of clones.
• Miss Lucy: Miss Lucy was a guardian at Hailsham who tried to teach the students there about their future as organ donors, because she believed that they had a right to know about it.
• Ruth: Ruth is Kathy’s best friend from the beginning, when everyone was at Hailsham. However, unlike her best friend, Ruth lies constantly, and is quite manipulative as well as selfish. For a long time, she dated Tommy, although she didn’t truly love him, and latter realized how selfish she had been to keep him and Kathy apart, when it had been obvious that they had feelings for each other. Later in life, when she and Kathy and Tommy meet again, she apologizes for her actions as an adolescent and tells Kathy and Tommy they should get together.
