Typically neuropsychologists will earn a Doctorate degree but many practice Neuropsychology while only obtaining a Master’s degree. To begin training to become a Neuropsychologist, students must obtain a Bachelor’s degree in biology, pre-med, neuroscience, psychology or another closely related field. Acquiring a Bachelor’s degree also includes completing various other general education requirements. After completing a Bachelor’s degree an aspiring Neuropsychologist must obtain a Master’s degree. A Master’s degree can sometimes be obtained without a Bachelor’s degree, but it depends on the field and college/university that is attended. Courses related to cognitive, behavioral, memory and learning brain processes are taken during this time period. Some students also take foundational classes in statistics and experimental psychology. Some students even go on to earn a Master’s degree in accounting to be more marketable towards large firms and businesses. To obtain a Doctorate degree, aspiring Neuropsychologists enter a graduates program that lasts 3-7 years and typically earn undergraduate degrees in pre-med, psychology or biology.
