Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), according to Muscle Health, is a specialized from a deep tissue massage in which pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle, in other words, it’s known as a Trigger point. To go further, NMT was originally founded by Dr. Stanley Lief, in the year of 1930 in England. Dr. Lief first lived here in the United States and trained as a chiropractor and a naturopathic physician. NMT was based on the combination with American chiropractic and osteopathy. Dr. Lief described NMT as a base on neurological laws that explained how the central nervous system maintain homeostatic balance. To be a certified NMT, according to eHow, a therapist must have a strong background in the physiology of the nervous system and its effect on the muscular system as well as the skeleton system. Also, it would be better if the therapist had a strong background in kinesiology and biomechanics. Also, it is better if the therapist knows the function and the dysfunction of muscles and joints in the torso, cranium, upper, extremities, and lower extremities. The length of the studying NMT varies on the program. Depending on the program, NMT training may take up to two to three days of seminar time. According to Yogawiz, to be an NMT, the therapist must complete fifteen to twenty hours of each subject. The cost of the tuition fee varies on what school you attend. Some schools have some tuition fees that are based on the number of hours completed, an example would be if a 250-hour course would have the cost approximate $250 or more. Some tuition fee has an average to charge up to as $8,000 to $9,000 plus the additional cost of books, supplies, massage table, licensure, and exam fees.
