The article that was used includes the marketing strategies of the NBA, and how they have, do, and will continue to enhance the spectators experience. This article is very helpful in describing the different strategies and techniques that multiple teams/broadcasters have performed. It is very clear and easy to understand, smoothly written for the duration of the article. I would recommend this article to whoever is trying to learn more in depth about sports marketing and the impact it can have. Over the years, sports associations have been constantly trying to find new ways of increasing the amount of viewers and keeping the ratings up. “Neuromarketing is being able to know how the consumer’s brains work, and finding the best way to produce appealing products. It is a relatively new technique that has been picked up by the vast majority of the media.” (Goold, 2016) There are many ways that the NBA is able to use Neuromarketing such as scheduling two powerhouse teams to play each other for the first game of the season. By doing so, the NBA can program the brain of viewers to spend extraneous amounts of time watching the programs. “Avid fans possess a stronger emotional connection to the sports entity, they subsequently spend significantly more time, money, and effort for sports related products and activities relative to their casual counterparts.” (Mondello, M., & Gordon, B. (2015) The author is saying that these industries are very good at making people like them and stay loyal. The NBA is interesting because each team has the opportunity to market itself. For example, the Phoenix Suns offer five dollar tickets to college students and this fills up the seats, making the games look more appealing. The article tells about a study that was done with the Orlando magic. “Subjects in this study consisted of 15 consumers of the Orlando Magic who participated in two focus groups. From a sport consumption standpoint, the respondents consisted of full season ticket holders, partial season ticket holders, and individual game purchasers. A series of questions were developed based upon a thorough review of the related literature and in consultation with the NBA franchise under examination.” (Mondello, M., & Gordon, B. (2015) They eventually came to the conclusion that the Orlando Magic have an issue with ticket sales because of the price. This research proved that the Magic need to change and implement some marketing techniques in order to gain more benefit from ticket sales.
