Negative Feedback In Homeostasis

Homeostasis is performed so the body can maintain its internal set point. Negative feedback is the predominant mechanism used in homeostasis. Negative feedback works to correct a deviation from a set point and tries to get back to the set point or the typical state of a bodily system. It usually causes the output of a system to be lessened or even increased to stabilize the system. The negative feedback control system responds when conditions change from the ideal set point and returns conditions to the ideal set point. Negative feedback can be a continuous cycle.
There are three parts to negative feedback, the receptor, control center, and the effector. The receptor is the part that detects changes. The control center monitors the changes and begins a negative feedback response when the changes are too far outside of the set point. The control center then signals an effector to take action that will help return the system toward its set point.

When blood sugar rises the receptors sense a change. Then the pancreas aka control center secretes insulin into the blood lowering blood sugar levels. Once blood sugar levels reach homeostasis, the pancreas stops releasing insulin. Another example is when you are hungry, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy and allows you to continue living with less food. Also, when you are hot and your body sweats to cool your internal temperature and when you are cold your body shivers to warm
