Peter Edelman focuses on the issue of poverty in addition with race in his article “Poverty in America: Why Can 't We End It?” when he states in fact, that “Race and gender play an enormous part in determining poverty’s continuing course. Minorities are disproportionately poor: around 27 percent of African-Americans, Latinos and American Indians are poor, versus 10 percent of whites.” and he later goes on to state the fact that the wealth disparities are even wider. When investment money is taken out of organizations the amount of money in which the community loses is greater than the amount gained by the so called embezzler. The horrible thing about this is the fact that people like this who are involved in high authority or who are considered as part of the government will never be prosecuted for these crimes, but rather they will be praised for their ‘overwhelming success and generosity’ that they give towards their fellow neighbors and
