In the article “Healthy Hearing”, Lisa Packer (2015) writes that personal electronic devices may cause physical and mental health problems. One of the negative effects is vision problems. For example, people spend long hours closely staring at the screen of mobile phones to text other people or browse the social media and websites. This results in fatigue or straining of the eyes focusing on the small screen and reading small letters. This is not solely caused by mobile phone use, it also happens after spending long time facing the computer screen. Moreover, that extended use can dry the eyes, cause pain and eventually impair vision or lead to being short-sighted. Another negative effect is on the hearing ability. Most people use their mobile phones and keep them nearby all the time, particularly teenagers, for different purposes. People have turned into robot-like individuals who are always accompanied by their smartphones while studying, sleeping or even eating to respond to texts or calls. Thus, they have become indulged in a virtual world that secluded them from the real society. Therefore, stress takes over their lives since they become easily irritated and unable to handle simple tasks.
