The negative effects of this project could have been avoided. The World Bank and The Brazilian government had the best of intentions when entering the project but there were a few things that made that made the situation worse. The first negatively impacting force was the use of media and marketing (television ads) to attract settlers and migrants to the area. The marketing was so effective that it brought huge numbers of people to the area. My biggest hesitancy in trusting the World Bank to be objective is the structure. The President has historically been a United States Citizen. That in itself seems problematic. How can the World Bank be objective in a global focus if the President is from the most powerful country in the world? It seems that the World Bank, with a U.S. citizen as its leader is going to lead with a focus on the United States. Not to mention that the 5 countries with permanent membership are going to vote in all the other members. How can power like that be objective? It
