Panama is a very surprising country, including for the food. Indeed, because of the diversity of cultures, Panamanian cooking mixes elements which come from different countries. For example, you can feel the American influence through the local cheesecake, or the Argentinian and Colombian influence when you have what they call “empanadas” or the Peruvian influence through what became one of the most famous meals of Central America, the “ceviche”. It’s almost impossible to be disappointed when you go to the restaurant or even when you buy something in an old, poor and little take away. Moreover, you can eat like an ogre for only 3 dollars. With this essay, I will try to make you travel all over the world only by talking about Panamanian cooking. Each paragraph will focus on one meal which comes from a foreign country and which became a culinary specialty of Panama. …show more content…
This meal is a typical meal of Latina America in general, which is prepared with a marinade of crude fish or seafood (or a mix of both of them) in lemon juice with tomatoes, onions and coriander. The ceviche can be quite different according to the countries. For example, in Peru, they add some chili to make it tastier and the fish is served whole whereas in Colombia or in Panama, the fish is cut into small pieces; in Equator, they cook the fish before marinating it. Many countries of Latina America pretend they are the original creator of the ceviche but no one can really tell who’s right.
