Good evening all, I hope your week is going well. The assigned reading was quite interesting, because it provided us an opportunity to gain further insight on the structure and characteristics of how a national strategy document is comprised.
What are the desired characteristics of a national strategy document?
First off, I think it’s important to recognize that these desired characteristics are not the end all, be all, rather it’s just a starting point that provides some direction for strategy. The desired characteristics of a national strategy document are Purpose, scope, and methodology, Problem definition and risk assessment, Goals, subordinate objectives, activities, and performance measures, Resources, investments, and risk management, Organizational roles, responsibilities, and coordination, and finally Integration and implementation (Yim 2004). It’s very important to recognize that not every individual national strategy document contains all of the desired characteristics that the GAO had identified for us. According to the GAO, “We believe a national strategy should ideally contain all of these characteristics.
