For the past 20 years, the outpatient specialty clinic, Gastroenterology Associates of Providence, Rhode Island, has worked hard each and every day to provide exceptional quality of care for all their patients and employees. This private practice follows their own quality philosophy when it comes to caring for their patients. In fact, an organization's quality philosophy is the organization’s approach to quality improvement and patient safety. Therefore, it is safe to say that Gastroenterology Associates’ quality philosophy relates well with the National Quality Strategy priorities and the overall organization’s quality plan. The National Quality Strategy has 6 main priorities that focus on improving health and health care quality in any given organization. Out of the 6 priorities, our organization mainly uses 3 of them to help shape the company’s overall philosophy. These priorities consist of making healthcare safer by decreasing risks created in the delivery of care, promoting effective communication and coordination of care, and advocating the most effective prevention and treatment practices for the leading causes of mortality, in this …show more content…
According to McKesson (2016), “Payers are asking providers to shift from volume-based care (fee for service) to a value-based reimbursement structure (fee for value) with a population health approach.” In other words, the organization of Gastroenterology Associates does not necessarily use value-based reimbursement, which could affect the quality of care for the patients in the long run. Therefore, this organization should start using these methods more effectively in order to benefit not only the patient, but also the healthcare provider and the payer. In fact, value-based reimbursement encourages healthcare providers to deliver the greatest care at the lowest cost, which in turn allows the patients to receive a higher level of quality care for the best
