He joined the National Guard before he went into college. he's been in the National Guard for nine years total and he currently has three years left of his contracts. He explained to us all the benefits of joining the National Guard as well as the downfalls, which weren't very many.

National Guard pays for your school as well as pays you like a job would. It gives you a head up in school and the medical world, but it can take a little longer for you to finish the degree you are working towards. There's a bill called the G I Bill which pays your tuition or a good chunk and if you are a good student that I need you qualify for it and it pays a really large portion of your tuition. Another perk of being in the national guard and something I was really surprised by is, you can pay in state Tuition even if you just moved out of state, the national guard can get out of state

You can become a healthcare specialist, which is also known as a combat medic and it's something that I personally am very interested in. I think it's so awesome that you can pursue your career in the civilian world as well as being in the national guard simultaneously.

My family has always been in the military, my cousin is currently stationed in Germany. So going into the National Guard seems like a better option because it gives me a lot more freedom to pursue a career in the civilian world, while still keeping my options open. It's kind of like getting the best of both worlds. If I were to going to National Guard I would definitely want to be a healthcare specialist, just because that's my interests. So I feel like if I do start my pre med degree and enlist in the National Guard then I will have an upper hand when it comes to medical school. As well as an upper hand as to being able to go into the army as a combat medic if that is the path I choose to go

People in the civilian world often people don’t think that the military life can transfer over into the civilian life very easily, but honestly it can help in a lot of different ways. Something as simple as being the leader of your group or your office in the civilian world can be traced back to your military training. Promotions also can be a beneficial thing from bettering yourself as a Marine or as a serviceman in general. I personally know a SSgt that when he ended his active duty service, he went to his new job and simply made a board for keeping accountability of his workers at all times during the working day, and that with other accomplishments, led to his promotion to be the boss of his former boss. Honestly military training and seeking responsibility to better yourself can pay off in a lot of…

The army is important to me it gives me a sense of family and make me feel like in a part of the team. I don’t mind the pay in the army it gives me a sense of independence and makes me feel like I can spend on what I want and what I need to use to get through until the next check. The army has also has it good and bad experiences like deployment. Deployment can be only on how the person can make it like for example myself I made it hard on myself and the people I worked with because of how I lied and hindered the mission when we were being replaced. The other side was it was a good experience to see how life was in deployed environment like Afghanistan, experience some places on the road to and from Afghanistan like the food, people and the views.…

Growing up in rural upstate New York, almost secluded from life. The most realistic jobs would have been to either work at Rawlings bat factory, or Remington arms manufacturing plant. I graduated from a small school in Dodgeville New York with a graduating class of around 100, so when I say that I ranked seventh that does not mean as much. I joined the army because I was bored and had no intention of going to college. Now as I am preparing to retire from the Army and begin the next phase of my life, I have found that I need a degree.…

The United States military is made up of 2,266,883 men and women; however that number makes up less than one percent of the American population. My father has been a part of that one percent for 24 years. The lessons I’ve learned while living with a military family are some that I will carry with me into my own adult life. Being a child in a military family benefited me in several ways that I am slowly becoming more mindful of as I grow older. When people think of life as a military child the first thing that comes to their mind is moving, a lot of moving.…
