Nasa´s Kepler's Search For Second Earth?

Improved Essays
Background
At night, people always raise head and look at stars. We may all have asked similar questions: are there any planets we can live other than earth? For decades, scientists and astronomers are devoted to these fascinating questions and have done lots of researches. Since the shining stars we can see with our naked eyes on earth are almost fixed stars like our sun, it’s absolutely impossible for life to exist there. Thus in order to search for second earth, the first thing to do is detecting Earth-sized and smaller planets in the habitable zone of stars. NASA’s Kepler Mission aims at this goal using the powerful telescope Kepler.

Kepler is designed to survey a portion of our region of the Milky Way galaxy to discover dozens of Earth-size

In February, NASA declared the disclosure of seven Earth-sized planets circling TRAPPIST-1, a ultra-cool smaller person found 40 light-years away. Three of the seven planets are situated inside the star's livable zone. The livable zone, in any case, doesn't ensure tenability, it basically characterizes a scope of orbital separations at which water could in principle exist as a fluid.…

NASA's Kepler Space Telescope studied other stars to search for the faint dimming of light that occurs when a planet passes between the disk of the star and the telescope. According to Jay Pasachoff, a professor at Williams College in Massachusetts who will be at Big Bear on May 9, the dimming of light from the 2003 and 2006 transits of Mercury were too faint to be detected, opening a door to understanding the limits of Kepler and the upcoming Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which will be launched in 2017. Read More: Scientists Eye 3 New Earth-Sized Worlds in Hunt for E.T. Mercury's transit will be too small to view using homemade pinhole cameras made to study Venus' passage. Telescopes outfitted with special filters will be able to spot the event.…

Many people saw Uranus but viewed it as a star. When William Herschel, who many viewed as an amateur astronomer, first saw it he thought it was a comet. Through further observation he realized that its motion was not that of a comet. They continued watching it, Herschel and many others, and in November of 1781, they realized that it was orbiting the Sun.…

Article Review Space, the stars, and other worlds have been a curiosity to man ever since our existence on earth. Ancient societies saw the sun, stars, and moon as Gods and have always been captivated by their wonder. We are now in an age with such grand scientific advancements and technology that allow us to view the final frontier of space in much greater detail than past societies, even within the last one hundred years, could have imagined. In just sixty-six years, society went from the first powered flight, by the Wright brothers in 1903, to the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. Now our attention has been focused on Mars and whether or not life can, or ever has, existed on the Red Planet.…

The number of known planets has exploded to 1700 over the past years. The question is, do these planets have the right factors to harbor multicellular let alone single cellular life? NASA’s main detective on the job is the Kepler Telescope launched in 2009. In that time span kepler has found 715 new planets orbiting 305 stars. Not only that, 4 of theses planets are at the correct distance from their stars to have liquid water on them which would imply the great possibility of some form of life on the…
