Narrative Report Red Mountain Retreat

Great Essays
The trip started with a bus ride. Forty students, who were each selected at random from the Mesa Community Dobson and Red Mountain Campuses rode together to the central location in Payson for the Leadership Retreat.
Of which I was one of the selected. The result from this 8:00 am start time on a Friday in September was all due to the advisor for the trip, Kim Kochak. Months before the trip ensued Kim was brainstorming extensively with twenty other advisors from both campuses. The planning for the retreat included detailed logistics especially for the, transportation, special diets, cabin arrangements, staff assignments, and supplies.
We arrived to our location at 1:00 in the afternoon. Kim was there to welcome us and informed us to be at

My group rotated through a series of team building events. The team building events not only worked on our team building skills, getting acquainted with each other, but loosened everyone up to be comfortable enough to build relationships. The following activities included, Jedi Numbers, Mingle Mingle, The Human Knot and Group Juggle. One of my favorite exercises was Mingle Mingle: It was a short and quick, fun, easy way to quickly get all of the students acquainted; also, the first thirty second exercise was to greet each person in the following group as if they were royalty. For example, I introduced myself to a girl, I bowed then said, “Greetings your majesty, how are you this fine evening?” Likewise she curtseyed and replied, “Good, thank you. Three years prior to this hike three dozen campers hiked along the same trail that we would be taking; however, their hike lasted for two extra hour because they had gotten lost, due to the rain and their GPS’s malfunction. The previous hikers were so exhausted that they had to be driven back to the camp. Kim with the other advisors were intent on not letting this incident happen again. To make sure that the entire group would not get lost Kim set a plan in motion. To have one counselor at the front of the line and the other at the back. Also, they set out counselors at various waypoints to where if there were any stragglers they could point them in the right

“Here we are,” I thought to myself as my parents and I pulled up to a big oak tree in our old, puke colored Subaru. The massive tree overlooked the Boston Harbor and the enormous cruise boats on it. Under the oak stood an assortment of kids and instructors from all over the world. No a one of them knowing what they were about to get their self into.…

The role of commercialism play in the disaster of 1996 In Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, climbers and guides of varying skill levels attempt to summit Everest in the disaster of 1996. The Everest guides fight not only to get to the top, but to get popularity for more customers to climb with them. The only way to get people to pay to get up to the top of the world’s highest mountain was to have a good reputation. Rob Hall the guide for Adventure Consultants, Scott Fisher the leader of Mountain Madness, and Ian Woodall are examples of leaders who made commercialism their highest priority.…

Have you ever been to Great Wolf Lodge? For my 10th birthday, I went to Great Wolf Lodge with my four best friends and my sister. The first thing we did after we got there was quickly changed into our bathing suits. But my little sister forgot her bathing suit so we had to go to the gift shop to get her one. After we were all ready we ran into the water park and it was blistering hot…

I consider Camp Kanata a second home, I worked my first full summer as a camp counselor after junior year. That summer was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life; I learned, laughed, and cried everyday, I also created amazing friendships. Yet when asked about what made my summer so spectacular a few months later, I had little to say, my mind was blank. I cannot remember what happened a week ago, let alone what happened months and years ago. The number of special memories and moments I have forgotten about is unquantifiable.…

Manifestaciones (Manifestations) Manifestaciones or short for Mani is a leadership retreat hosted by the Center for Latino Arts and Culture (CLAC) located on College Avenue. Although it is expected that this retreat is only for Latinos since it is hosted by the CLAC, anyone from any race can go because although the retreat is Latino-oriented it is not Latino exclusive. There is an application that every potential participant must fill out and the participants are chosen based on their responses on the application. Because of limited space, not everyone is allowed to go but I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the participants.…

All I wanted to do was enjoy my day on a Freshman retreat to Camp Tekawitha. On a hot day I got back from my retreat around 5:10. Jaclyn and I talked to our coach two days before the retreat and told her that we would be getting back around 5:00 and probably won't be able to make it to practice. We told our coach around 5:00 because our teachers didn't know exactly what time we would be getting back to school. Since practice was over at 5:30, Jaclyn and I thought it wouldn't be necessary to go to practice.…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

This week, I was able to be more involved in the actual teaching within the classroom. Last week, I monitored student behavior a lot and made sure that everyone was on task when they were supposed to be. However, this week I taught morning meeting and skills block. During morning meeting, we would listen to the daily announcements on the overhead, then I would call everyone down to the carpet to sit in a circle.…

Thanks the Texas Exes alumni, I was able to go to Camp Texas for free this year. At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…
