Narrative Essay On Ten Being Last

Improved Essays

If animals were to race to a finish line, I’d be a turtle with a broken leg. The point is, I was always last as a child. Around the eighth grade, nothing really changed about my mentality. I was the last person anyone would expect to be first. After many years of this consistent trend, I was tired of it. It then became a goal of mine to change this. At the time, my favorite activity was basketball. As expected, I was last at this too. When

It was the winter of my 7th-grade year, a time when so much was already changing. But never have I changed more than in the months after my mother's cancer diagnosis. It was technically Stage 3b breast cancer, and from what I could understand, a very fast growing variety. Year 7 was hard, moving from a small primary school with just over 100 students to a secondary with close to 17 000 was a massive step. It was probably made even harder by the fact that that summer I had just gotten my hearing aids and was not used to being able to hear my own footsteps for the wind. I was bullied but now I question the intelligence of them as they would sometimes whisper behind my back and if I took my aids out, hay presto I could not hear them anymore, yay. In lessons, apart from the occasional few, I sat in the front, which was nice as it meant I could hear what they were trying to…

As a child, I loved school. Learning, playing, and interacting with others brought joy to my life. At school, I spent my energy doing as much as I could while I was there, and at home, I would pretend to be at school, teaching all of my stuffed animals what I learned that day. While this passion of mine did not last forever, it did not fully disappear. The older I became, the less school appealed to me, but the drive to do my best stayed consistent throughout.…
