Narrative Essay On Social Work

Wednesday, Today was a fast pace day. I am absolutely exhausted; today was the first day that I reconsidered being a social worker. When I arrived at Feed My Sheep I had several people waiting on me and the other case mangers. We don’t open up until nine am, but our line started forming outside of the facility at seven am. We recently just started advertising our agency over the radio and on the internet, so I am assuming that what brought people to our facility. When I walked up to the door people were yelling at me as I did something wrong. They we saying things like when does this shit open up and how long do they have to wait in line. I have been setting my limits. One of my peers pulled me to the side and gave me her assessment of me. She said that I was working to hard and I need to set the standards. For example if my break is at one pm I need to take my break at that time. She said that I should make the clients poor planning an emergency on my end. If I kept doing that I would stress myself out, I completely agree with her. I would do my best to help these clients, by skipping lunch, staying longer and going beyond my job description for them. Most of the time I find that my clients don’t care about their situation as much as I do. I cant help it though, when I see a person in need I really want to help them. Only because I know what its like not to have help for anything and to feel like the world against you. My supervisor told me I have to know when to stop working with people. I shouldn’t have to try and tract people don because I am trying to help them. This reminded me of a statement I heard in 581 which was never work harder that your client. I am certain that I already do, so this is something that I am going to have to work on. For example whenever I try to show a client how to fill out a job application, they always act clueless, but they know how to work Facebook just fine. I am not sure what happen. All this week it been very crowded. I am very happy about the lack of people today. I have been very busy all week with homework, work and my practicum. I am due for a easy day in my book. We had about seven clients in total today and six of the seven just wanted to use the computer. I am not sure why clients like to use our computers, they are so old. Their box monitors, and dust covered keyboard are disgusting to even look at. Maybe I look at things differently then they do because I have a late laptop. I asked one of the clients today why did they like using the laptop so much and they said that it was because they didn’t have a time limit. At the local library which is just three miles from here they have a time limit to be in the computer. Each patron is allowed to have one hour on the computer per day regardless if there is a wait line or not. The reason that the client said that they have a time limit is because people sleep in the library because of the AC and the water fountain. Its amazing to see how much I take from granted. I don’t think of water and AC as a necessity because I have it all the time. I didn’t have a client today, it was really to have a full house for the last two day but have a empty house today. I pondered on this all day until I asked my per what was going on today. She said that people didn’t come to the facility today because today is payday for most people . The government pays the 1 and
