When I think of liberal arts, I automatically think of Liberal arts colleges. When I was graduating high school I spent much of my time researching what kind of college would interest me. I found out that I really liked the vibes of liberal arts colleges because they offered more artistic and creative ways of teaching. I looked at colleges like Bard College, Columbia College Chicago, and The University of New Hampshire College. All these colleges offered my major (early childhood education), and considered it to be liberal arts and science major. I feel that liberal arts offer more creative majors. The reason this appeals to me is because this is how I believe I have been learning my whole life. The schools I have attended really encouraged us to learn by doing, and that is what applied learning is. I really believe that this way of learning makes education much more interesting and stimulating. I know that for me, learning though hands on experiences really helped me to appreciate the knowledge being taught to me as well as it more realistic. A lot of the times the students I work with ask the question “Why do we need to learn this, will we ever really need to know this information?”. Sometimes I find it hard to answer that question without being able to show them. Applied learning would be an easy way for the kids to answer that question themselves. A majority of the schools I visited when trying to pick a college to go to and classes that were hands on. From that observation I was able to conclude that maybe liberal arts liked to use applied learning as their main form of teaching technique. I know here at Brandman I am very excited to take my classes that require me to physically be in a classroom, either by observing or teaching lesson plans. Prompt
