For years, I separated myself from society, cried myself to sleep, refused to look in mirrors, and rejected any activity or event that had too much joy in the air. Although, I understood how it feels to be drowned in self-misery, I decided to mentor and guide these kids through their journey to becoming cancer free and, most importantly, their journey to happiness. Pleased with Penury Atarhe Ekedayen Often times in books, movies and generally any form of media, we are subjected to and made to stomach the same cliché ideology and format surrounding the representation poverty. A metaphorical hell on earth repeatedly depicted by themes of squalor, hatred, greed and suffering just to name a few, where the character or characters, often times of marginalized ethnicity, try desperately to escape this reality for what they perceive to be a better existence elsewhere. I want to show how one day you can be living an ordinary life, and the next day that same life is turned upside down in an instant. I also wanted to tell this story to bring awareness to a disease that most people do not know can affect young children.…
