Narrative Essay On Being A Teacher

Being a Teacher My boyfriend’s mom and sister are both teachers and I always say to the both of them “how do you do it?” Never in my wildest dreams would I ever be a teacher at least that is what I thought. Then one day I decided I would sit and watch how my daughters Pre-School class worked. I figured teaching a Pre-School class would be an easy job but I was wrong. My day started at 7am and I knew right then and there today was going to be a long. As I was getting ready all I could think was how horrible this day would be. I would have to deal with screaming, bratty kids all day and I was not prepared. My daughter on the other hand, was very excited that I would be joining her in school. So my daughter and I got ourselves ready for school. …show more content…
The teacher told me that even though it seemed like the children were only playing they were also learning. I asked what the children were learning and the teacher told me they were learning to share and problem solve. I never looked at playing like that before but, I was able to see problem solving first hand that day. One little girl had all of the blocks and did not want to share so the other children got upset and started telling on her. One of the teachers asked the little girl if there was a problem and the little girl answered yes. So the teacher asked how to solve the problem and the little girl shared the blocks. What I found interesting was that the teacher did not tell the little girl to share but instead she asked the little girl what she needed to do and the little girl solved the problem on her …show more content…
The kids were sitting down having a snack, while others kids were being picked up. I asked the teachers if they were able to leave after all the children were done and they said they were there till 4pm. The teachers are not allowed to clean and sanitize the classroom until all of the children have left. Then they had to stay and do paper work. I didn’t realize how much work being a Pre-School teacher was. Altogether my day at Leads Head Start Pre-School was eye opening to me. Yes, the children did a lot of playing and dancing, but there was learning involved with everything the children do. The teachers were amazing and love the children as their own, and the children loved the teachers too. I made new friends that day and I have also been thinking about doing early childhood education. I enjoyed the children more then I figured I would. They were good all day and made me feel right at home. I loved helping the children and maybe one day helping children will be my

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

Most of the kids by the first five minutes of this observational period finished and cleaned up their table. Seeing such a drastic that seems to come from about 4 to 6 is amazing, unlike the preschoolers and toddlers the middle childhood kids have begun to take on more responsibility for their actions and are actually able to contribute to the world around them. For example, one of the kids needed a napkin, and rather than just asking a caregiver to get it, they got up and retrieved the napkin. Understandably, this is nothing special and in all honesty I may be finding such meaningless task a bit too exciting, but simply put, the change that can be noticed each age group and with such a large change from the preschoolers observed before it is just amazing to think about how much…

My family and I had to make the hardest decision if I were to stay home schooled, or go to public school. I really wanted to go to public school, but a small part of me wanted to stay home schooled because I thought I wasn't ready to bring on that big of a challenge. Big school with lots of kids, teachers, rooms, and lockers are all different and new for me. Lockers is the biggest one for me because I have never ever in my life had a locker before. Friends is another one because I know a lot of people that go to Foothills, but I knew there will be pumps along the way.…

    1. How might the cycle poverty and living in an impoverished community (e.g., living in a food desert) influence oral health care and nutrition of the children you visited? In these situations, oral health will be a low priority for the children and most likely the guardians of these children. Lower income families have less disposable income to spend on products like toothbrushes and floss when they are barely making enough to feed their families.…
