The blade was so sharp that it whistled whenever the wind blew on it. The second thing that caught his attention was the sword’s razor sharp pommel; it was a giant tear-shaped ruby that was fixed in place with platinum prongs extending out from the grip. The grip was also made of platinum and was partially wrapped in white leather. But what really caught his eye was the elegant cursive engraving that was located directly above the crossguard, parallel to the blade. It read: Iravayne.
There was another, smaller, cursive engraving just below that one, but he did not get the chance to read it. The sound of two chatting men and a trotting horse broke the forest’s peaceful tranquility and drew his attention away from the sword. I have to get out of here, he thought, knowing instantly that something was amiss. With his newly claimed sword in hand, he grabbed the white leather belt with the golden scabbard and attached it to his waist. He immediately fell back onto his knees. If I keep falling down like this, I might not be able to get back up. I need to use this newfound strength, while I can. With this in the back of his mind, he got back up on his naked feet and carefully climbed off of the edge of the stone altar.
Just as he was about to leave the stone altar behind him for good, he turned around and gave it one last look. It was then that he realized that he had been lying on top of a large serpent pentagram this whole time. What the hell happened here?! he wondered, staring wide-eyed at the eerie serpent pentagram that covered the entirety of the altar. As much as he would’ve liked to stay and investigate the stone altar even further, he knew that he couldn’t linger for much longer. The sounds of the men and horse grew nearer and nearer.
