Short Story: Alondra's Breach

One afternoon, Alondra, a Spanish penguin girl went to a Turkish park with her family. There Alondra met Aylin, a Turkish penguin girl, who was her same age.
“Let’s sit here on this bench and rest a while,” suggested Aylin after they had been running all over the park for a while in a game of tag.
Alondra nodded and hopped on to the bench. She sat cross legged, with the sole of her right foot pointing towards Aylin.
Aylin looked down at Alondra’s foot and sat on the opposite side of the bench.
“Is it dirty?” Alondra asked, looking at the spot Aylin would have sat on.
Aylin, not understanding what Alondra was referring to nodded.
Alondra hopped up, declaring, “Then, let’s look for another bench.”
Aylin was confused, but went along.

She no longer wanted to sit on it.
Alondra tilted her head, giving Aylin a puzzled look. “Is this one dirty too?”
Aylin sighed and nodded.
With a huff, Alondra hopped on to her feet, “Third try should be the lucky one.” She said as she looked for another, cleaner bench.
This time, they found one by a fountain. Alondra, wanting to enjoy the full view of the water and its light tricks as the sun’s rays passed through it, sat on the farthest side of the bench, extending her legs as far as they would go. There was only a small spot for Aylin to sit.
Aylin frowned and looked at the bench and at Alondra’s feet, which had their souls pointing at her once again.
Crossing her arms, Aylin went to side behind Alondra. There was still a little bit of bench free. But she misjudged how small it was.
As soon as Aylin sat down, she fell sideways, off the

She found Alondra sitting in the cold water, sputtering, trembling and with a small orange fish flapping on top of her head.
Aylin laughed, laughed and laughed, until she gasped for breath.
As she helped Alondra out, Alondra asked, “Am I clean now?”
Aylin frowned in confusion, “What do you mean? You were always clean, well most of you.”
Alondra frowned, not understanding.
“Your feet are dirty.” Aylin pointed out.
Alondra took off her shoes and hopped back into the fountain again. She splotched in the water and scrubbed at her feet, while Aylin watched on.
“Are they clean now?” Alondra wondered, hopping out of the fountain and sitting on the bench, to dry her feet.
Aylin shrugged, “I guess, but your feet alone isn’t the issue. Your shoes are too.”
Alondra faced the fountain once again and threw her shoes in.
“Stop!” Aylin shouted, dashing forward and catching the shoes before they landed on the water and dirtied it too for the fish.
“Your shoes are alright, for shoes that is,” Aylin said handing Alondra back her shoes and explaining, “In Turkish culture, it is considered rude to point feet, or the sole of shoes at others. They are considered dirty, thus showing the soles of your shoes, or feet is seen as a rude and dirty

The trees around him stood still, but the air was stiller as if the whole world were frozen in time. As the sun sank behind the horizon, a cold wind broke the stillness. Red and orange leaves fluttered to life in the gust of wind. Some of them broke free from their branches to dance in the breeze.…

Character Insert-Creative Writing Project Dixie-Lee Hayes lay on the ground gasping for breath, scowling at the tree above her. That very particular tree, which she had been previously occupying, was the dark-haired woman's favorite because it grew at an angle and required very little effort to climb. The branches of the surrounding trees were full enough to shade the area but not to obstruct her view of the camp, making it the perfect area for her to people watch after she had finished her chores. The tree was steep enough that no walker would have had enough balance to climb and covered enough that anyone from the group would have to actively look for her in order to see her, giving her the perfect false sense of security.…
