“Let’s sit here on this bench and rest a while,” suggested Aylin after they had been running all over the park for a while in a game of tag.
Alondra nodded and hopped on to the bench. She sat cross legged, with the sole of her right foot pointing towards Aylin.
Aylin looked down at Alondra’s foot and sat on the opposite side of the bench.
“Is it dirty?” Alondra asked, looking at the spot Aylin would have sat on.
Aylin, not understanding what Alondra was referring to nodded.
Alondra hopped up, declaring, “Then, let’s look for another bench.”
Aylin was confused, but went along.

She no longer wanted to sit on it.
Alondra tilted her head, giving Aylin a puzzled look. “Is this one dirty too?”
Aylin sighed and nodded.
With a huff, Alondra hopped on to her feet, “Third try should be the lucky one.” She said as she looked for another, cleaner bench.
This time, they found one by a fountain. Alondra, wanting to enjoy the full view of the water and its light tricks as the sun’s rays passed through it, sat on the farthest side of the bench, extending her legs as far as they would go. There was only a small spot for Aylin to sit.
Aylin frowned and looked at the bench and at Alondra’s feet, which had their souls pointing at her once again.

Aylin laughed, laughed and laughed, until she gasped for breath.
As she helped Alondra out, Alondra asked, “Am I clean now?”
Aylin frowned in confusion, “What do you mean? You were always clean, well most of you.”
Alondra frowned, not understanding.
“Your feet are dirty.” Aylin pointed out.
Alondra took off her shoes and hopped back into the fountain again. She splotched in the water and scrubbed at her feet, while Aylin watched on.
“Are they clean now?” Alondra wondered, hopping out of the fountain and sitting on the bench, to dry her feet.
Aylin shrugged, “I guess, but your feet alone isn’t the issue. Your shoes are too.”
Alondra faced the fountain once again and threw her shoes in.
“Stop!” Aylin shouted, dashing forward and catching the shoes before they landed on the water and dirtied it too for the fish.
“Your shoes are alright, for shoes that is,” Aylin said handing Alondra back her shoes and explaining, “In Turkish culture, it is considered rude to point feet, or the sole of shoes at others. They are considered dirty, thus showing the soles of your shoes, or feet is seen as a rude and dirty
