It was the spring break of 2016, and I was ecstatic. It had been hot all week, but that was to be expected in the Cayman Islands. I had already ridden an airplane for the first time, been diving for the first time, and stayed at my grandpa's house for the first time. As usual, my grandpa was full of surprises. It was definitely going to be the spring break of “firsts”.
“Let’s go to the dolphin aquarium! The kids would have fun with the dolphins,” he said. Of course, we all agreed to go. We had never dreamed of swimming with them! “Let's load up in the car everybody. We are off to the dolphins!” I ran and changed into my favorite bathing suit. I knew my mom would be taking pictures, so I wanted to look my best. I grabbed my goggles, my hat,

I don't know how the dolphins were not freezing their tails off. We took off our sunglasses and lay them down on the edge of the pool; we didn’t want to lose them in this pool. It must have been at least 20 ft deep! “Watch your step,” they said as we stepped into the icy water. I looked at my mom as our feet touched the water. Our eyes met and we both mouthed the words, cold! “We know the water isn’t very warm, but if it was any warmer the dolphins would not want to be in it. Everybody in? Good, ok. Let’s meet our dolphin friend, …show more content…
The trainer explained that we need to hold onto Polly's dorsal fin with both our hands, keep our bodies' to the side of her, and she would pull us back into the crowd. With a squeal or two of excitement, my sister and Polly were swimming straight towards us. After her turn, it was my turn. My nerves got ahold and me and I asked the trainer once we were out in the middle of the pool how deep it was. “It is 25 feet deep. But don’t worry, as long as you have that life jacket on, you won’t sink.” “Ok,” I said. I grabbed Polly's dorsal fin, and we were off! It was so

I fidgeted uncomfortably on the hard, green plastic seats around the stage and semi-circle shaped pool, resting my arms on the sides of the seats. I grimaced at the sight of bird poop on the armrests and quickly removed my elbows off them, placing them on my lap after checking for scat on my sleeves. It was a long wait before the Blue Horizons show started at Seaworld, San Diego , and all I could do was stare at the oddly shaped plastic waves on the stage, and the rainbow balloon-like “bubbles” on them, and listen to my brother whine about how he was hungry, and beg my dad for more beef jerky. My dad adamantly refused to give my brother any, saying that the show would start soon. I had to watch a tug-of-war with the beef jerky package while…

The sun rays left me squinting and I walked back to a shop near the shore for some shade underneath a palm tree. ’ Two Gulls’ was painted on a wooden board nailed above the door and the wind chimes rang in the distance to warn the shop owners of each visitors entry. On display in the window were rows of miniature seashell necklaces, hand painted ornaments, and assorted taffy. My eyes drifted off to the shore to find a grey dolphin jump out of the water followed by a group of others. Each one had a sparkle covering its exterior that soon vanished underneath the blue abyss.…

Fishing with Papa As the year's pass, I find myself fantasizing of going fishing on my papa's lake. He bought the land when I was in kindergarten, and I spent countless hours there each summer running free, learning to fish in our lake, and discovering who I am. My best reminiscences of growing up are in a boat, listening to my papa's stories, with a pole in my hand. I look back now and comprehend that, by teaching me to fish, my papa eventually taught me how to be patient.…
