Around 1953 my grandpa went to work in texas. when he was 8 years old, with my great-grandpa (his dad) they worked to send money back to mexico. They would work in the cotton fields but only when it was in season to. When the season would end they’d go back to mexico.
My father came from Salamanca Guanajuato, Mexico. He couldn't remember the year or when he came but he said he was around 16-17 years old. He came to america like most people back then to work. He met a kid in the same situation the guy said to go with him to Tijuana where his brother was going to meet him. So with the little but only thing my father had he went to Tijuana. They waited at the bus stop over night but when my dad woke to a man yelling at him saying ‘this is not a motel’ he noticed the kid was gone. So once again he was alone. A man approached him asking if he was waiting for someone, my dad told him what happened and the man told him he was going to apply for a job tomorrow if he wanted to go with him. The next day my father and that man went to a building that was under construction and asked for a job. Knowing nothing about construction my father lied to get the job which he did end up getting. My father ended up working there for a year or two the boss liked him. He ended up paying for my dad to go to school and learn english. He was settled he had a good life, and job till one day his uncle came and found him and asked if he wanted to cross with him my dad did he dropped everything. The boss said the job will be here if he didn't make it over. They ended up making it and my dad got a permit to work and he worked in construction than in landscaping. Now my dad is an american citizen and owns his own landscaping business.
Looking for a better life for their families is usually why immigrants come to the U.S. In my father's case he came to get a better job to support his parents and younger siblings. He eventually ends up succeeding. It was a rollercoaster to get where my father is now.
