Which nail polish should the entire female population wear in order to get the longest wear? In order to discover the answer to this question one must explore when nail polish was invented and which ingredients were used to create it. Also, investigate the different types and the chemicals. Nail polish was first created in China around 3000 BC. It was made from beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, and vegetable dyes. The polish was used to distinguish upperclassmen from the general population. Among the powerful and wealthy popular colors were often in metallic and consisted of silver and gold. From China nail polish spread across India, Middle East and Northern Africa, where it was also used in Egypt . Europe only gained access to nail polish after the arrival of the Renaissance Period and the new trade connection with the …show more content…
Let’s go more into depth. Plasticizers are to thank for the flexibility and increased durability of the polish. Dibutyl Phthalate is an ingredient also used to make the polish more flexible, therefore increasing the durability. However, this ingredient was banned by the European Union. Camphor is an ingredient that increase the flexibility of the nails and comes from the camphor tree. Ever wondered how polishes get their vibrant colors? Well that’s thanks to the pigments. Pigments are used to create the colors of each polish. Combinations of natural and manufactured pigments are blended together to create a wide variety of shades. Let’s go more about how these flamboyant colors are obtained. Mica is a natural pigment that gives nails a shimmery look. Silica is a thickening agent that prevents premature settling of pigments.
