Women account for a high percentage of infections in India but they’re not the ones who are participating in risky behavior-a significant portion of new HIV infection in women are occurring in women who are in a monogamous relationship with a man who has had or has multiple sex partners are infecting their wives. To address this, women of all relationship statuses need to be made aware of condom usage and how it prevents infections. “The HIV virus is more easily transmitted from men to women than from women to men; male-to-female transmission during sex is about twice as likely as female- to-male transmission.”(Pradhan) so women are at a higher risk biologically without any social determinants and they need to be made aware of this information. In India women have lower status as well as less education and are more likely to be in poverty and all of these socio-economic factors put them at a higher risk. “There are 868,000 female sex workers in India, and 2.8% are living with HIV, although this figure varies between states… one study found HIV prevalence among sex workers ranged between 2% and 38% (averaging at 14.5%) among districts in the south Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka” (HIV and AIDS in India). By training better doctors, nurses, and community health care workers we will improve the quality of care provided at primary health care centers across the nation. We are also improving human resource development by providing more education about prevention, transmission, and treatment of HIV/AIDS in our public service announcements.
5.) The opposition that I think is most likely will be coming from the people who currently run medical schools for profit. I doubt they will be happy that we want them to actually select students based on merit rather than money. The people running these institutions are extremely corrupt and should be fired and have their bad practices shown to the public so I don’t think their opposition will have too much effect on the broader community view of our proposal. Other than corrupt businessmen I don’t think any other person or group would have any reason to oppose our proposal.
