What does NADH stand for? First off it stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride. Now NADH is a natural occurring substance that is found in living organisms, with an “H” that actually stand for high energy hydrogen. Now what does this hydrogen have to do with NADH? Well when NAD has this “H” it therefore means it is in the most active biological form possible. NADH is also known as coenzyme 1 in our bodies, and is also the top ranked coenzyme that we have in our body. Since it is such an active coenzyme it makes it the most highly used in many biological reactions that take place. Another key aspect of NADH is that it is absolutely necessary to have for our cellular development and the production of energy in our bodies as well. It also plays a role in how in how we use the food that we eat. When we eat our food and it is being digested it is necessary to have NADH to produce energy from that food that is being processed. Without it our bodies would have to find another means of getting energy from our food. Not only does it help with producing energy it is also the principle carrier of the electrons in the energy producing process in the cells that make us up. IT is also a known fact that scientists claim that NADH is an essential antioxidant to have. Just for reference an antioxidant is a substance that inhibits oxidation, especially one used to counteract the deterioration of stored food products. Coenzymes are somewhat different from regular enzymes, as in they are smaller molecules compared to enzymes. Enzymes are much larger and they also catalyze many of the biological products in our bodies that will eventually lead to products.
