The topic I choose for this assignment is “Study Drugs”. The two sources I used for my assignment are Motlow’s library and Gale General OneFile Database. Both of these sources I used were chosen from peer review only. Using the database inside the library and double check to make sure they were peer reviewed in order to be certain the credibility of the sources are legitimate.…

Most of patients are prescribed from the benzodiazepine (anxiolytic) category such as Xanax or Klonopin for tension relief, reduction of other somatic symptoms, and relaxation (butcher, 2008). Benzadiazepines were released in the early 1960s and are the most widely used class of anti-anxiety medications. They are widely used because they are beneficially and work fast to cure acute anxiety. Depending on the dosage being taken the help quell anxiety and at higher dosages they act as sleep-inducing agents and can be used to treat insomnia (Butcher, 2008). Unfortunately some of the side affects include psychological and physiological dependence.…

The purpose of this lab was to iodonize salicylamide and characterize the product in order to determine its structure. The crude product of this reaction was recrystallized using ethanol. The white crystalline product was isolated using vacuum filtration and characterized. The percent yield of this reaction was determined to be 39%. The observed experimental melting point of the product was determined to be 235-137 oC. When compared to the literature melting point 228 oC of the predicted product, 5-iodosalicylamide, it can be concluded that the product is very pure.…
MDMA, Molly or Ecstasy, but legally known as Methlysafrylaminc - these are all the same drug. In 1912 this, now illicit substance, was originally developed by a German pharmaceutical company to control bleeding. Some say that it has medical use, while others completely disagree. Patents are defined as exclusive rights granted by a government to an assignee or inventor for a certain period of time, up to 20 years, that means, the patent gives one the right to prevent others from benefiting from the invention in a commercial way, for instance, selling, using, and importing for a fixed period. But at the same time it is not a right to make, sell and use anything by the inventor (WIPO, 2008). In pharmaceutical applications, the patent must include details about the physicochemical properties of the drug and the method of the preparation and its biological effects, therefore the patenting may not take place until pre-clinical trials and phase I of clinical trials are completed . There are several criteria must be satisfied…
