Chapter One
For most soldiers in the Civil War it was a horrible scary time. There was hardly any sanitation and absolutely no knowledge infectious disease. It wasn’t quite as bad in the Navy. Since the boats were close to the river shores and on coastlines, there were ports where they could restock their food more easily than ground troops.
Myron Colburn was a Union Naval Sailor in the Civil War. He was born and raised in New Hampshire, but later he moved to Vermont. Myron had a very intriguing life from when he was a kid and enlisted in the army to his life in the war and then his life with his family working as blacksmith after the war. Chapter Two
Myron Colburn was born in New Hampshire in 1843. In 1850 he was seven and lived in a small house with six other people. His dad, Samuel, worked as a blacksmith and was the head of the house. His mom stayed at home with the children who were too …show more content…
The war ended on May 9, 1865. Since he enlisted on September 1st, 1864 he had been at war and away from his family for almost a year. When he returned home he was most likely greeted with open arms and tears. He was probably excited to be eating better food too. Soon after Myron got home he got married and had two children. His wife’s name was Persis and his two kids were named Emma and Colburn. Myron was the head of the household and he worked as a blacksmith, following in his father’s footsteps. In 1910 Myron was living with his daughter Carrie and his sister-in-law Francis Lord. He died six years later in 1916. His family and friends remembered him as a friend and hero. Persis had died a few years earlier. His children were grown up by this time and they most likely went on to start families of their own. When the young boys died in the Civil War there weren’t as many people in that generation after the war
