English 1301: A Short Story

The story that I want to share is, the basic yet often talked about transition, between high school and college. High school was so much easier for me back then, you could get away with so much more and not worried about homework as much. Now in college, it feels like I’ve sat down for the longest, scariest, most agonizing rollercoaster of my life. English in high school wasn’t much of a concern to me. Teachers didn’t persist on teaching students good writing habits or the depth of what writing can go into, like they do in college. I was able to perceive reading and writing in a more deeper and understanding level, actually see the purpose behind it all. People sometimes do something and never really asked, “why?” I feel like that’s what I was missing in high school. Seems like Teachers follow a linear teaching style and never question the course curriculum they have to follow. Never go into a more understanding of what a course is about. Reading and writing have much more to it then words and sentences. It has meaning, picture, audience, information, etc. In high school they say read a short story and summarize what you learned. Mostly about vocabulary or basic meaning of the passage. I never say look for what you could add or what audience the author to sharing to, just basic stuff. Its in college I learned to progress my writing style and reading. I actually even got a liking to English, more of writing than reading. Regardless though English isn’t my favorite subject. I’ll still have other subject and hobbies I enjoy more because that’s the way I am. Its this that affects my reading and writing, because everyone’s way of writing and understanding of reading is different. Nobody enjoys doing the work but its what makes people better, you learn a lot more when you put in effort for something, especially reading and writing. You can accomplish many things with the power of knowledge. Learning is a major key to succeed in life if you are to become somebody greater than you image. Being able to learn reading and writing is a necessity in everyday life. Sure you need it to get through school, but it comes into effect when working in your future career or when reading street signs down the road. You probably don’t notice how much you do it on a daily basis. But you need to see how you can express yourself through reading and writing. Some of my friends’ use reading or writing as a way to get away from stress. They use what they know to help themselves. They can in turn also use it for other reasons of their choosing. Honestly, I didn’t know what college was going to have in store for me. 1301 was a shock for me and now 1302, I don’t know what to expect but more lectures on understanding reading and writing, and of course putting it to use in
