My Syrian Experience

Be it the birth of Christ or the victory of the revolution against the Greek-Syrian, many families come together to share during the holiday seasons. Even though traditions and beliefs are different in every household, an ultimate goal is reached; unity. This among other valuable lessons, I learned working by the side of Lupita and a number of genuine souls.
At the beginning of my eight grade year Mrs. Duarte, Lupita’s mom, made an announcement during youth group. The special needs group at the church was coming together to form a caroling choir, Estrellitas de Dios. The choir’s goal was to spread the joy of Christmas to those in need. With three months in advance these kids were to practice different Christmas carols every Monday for

For many of those kids their future was already planned out and it wasn’t to be a promising one. They were to depend on their parents for almost everything and their education would stop with a high school diploma. To my surprise there was also two deaf kids who were willing to use their hands and sign the songs along with the rest of us. Off the bat, those kids made me realize that with a good attitude anything can happen. When we were finally formally introduced, a little girl gave me a compliment and I quickly felt welcomed. That night and every Monday I went home amazed. Through their actions I learned to accept and build relationships with anyone regardless of their …show more content…
Every visit touched my heart and little by little made me view life differently. I had become more caring and accepting towards others. Personally, the visit that impacted me the most was the Children’s hospital visit. I remember how excited all of our kids were to perform. The nurses had told us we were only allowed to sing from outside the hallways. As we caroled from hall to hall, little heads began to pop out from the rooms. Most of these kids were to spend their Christmas at the hospital. At one point of our visit my voice began to break, and tears began to roll down my face, but the special needs kids kept me strong. Once again they were the ones teaching me valuable lessons. No matter what we were experiencing, they never stopped singing and smiling. They knew what they were doing, and the joy they were bringing. Through their performance that night I learned to stand stay strong and lighthearted when times get

Music is beautiful in many different ways. I may not listen to letlive. on a daily basis, but by the way the crowd was moving and how we were all emotionally involved, they could change lives with their music. We saw many bands that day, some of them being my favorites or soon to be favorites. I feel that you never get to actually get a band until you have seen them live, because once you see how they interact with their own music, you really get to see them for them, and understand why they're doing this.…

In the essay, A Remaining Christmas by Hilaire Belloc, the author makes the observation “Indeed, modern men who lack such things, lack sustenance, and our fathers who founded all those ritual observances were very wise.” This statement proves to be valid, not only in the context of the essay, but also in the context of modern life. The author, though writing from a time past, has stated a truth that is relevant to modern society. The observances he is mourning the loss of instilled a sense of reverence and wonder to the Christmas celebration of the house, things that are nearly completely gone from modern Christmas celebrations. The men who established them knew that this sense of awe was vital…necessary not only for the spiritual…

The summer of 2013 was a huge life-changing personal triumph. My church offered me to attend a mission camp with them called Mfuge, The camp involves a lot of ministry work, group worship, and personal group bonding activities so everyone felt comfortable and welcomed. The first day my group got assigned to go out to a lower poverty neighborhoods local park and spend the day with the kids. Seeing every single kid smile, laugh and have the best time of their lives there was never a dull moment. It really opened my eyes to how sometimes the smallest things can make someone feel amazing, and how grateful we should be for everything we have because sometimes in the darkest moments we take that for granted.…

But as the international community is faced with its largest forced migration crisis since World War II, America has largely remained a bystander as Europe is weakened by the burden of resettling the flood of migrants and refugees from conflict zones like Syria. In order to lend political support to our major European allies, the United States must reassert its role in refugee resettlement and integration, much like we did after World War II. The strengthening of ties between European allies and the United States requires the implementation of a refugee resettlement surge, a streamline screening processes, and the expansion of refugee resettlement and integration programs within the United States.…
