Reflection #3 I am doing well this week. Last week was busy, but with the use of my time management app and the skills I am developing the week went by smoothly. I had my first exam and learned which study tips worked for me and which ones I need to change. My initial reaction to the study skills assessment I took online was shocked. I agree with my results. I found out that I have relatively good skills in time management. I still need to develop more effective and efficient ways to prioritize and use my time. For concentration/memory I need to develop more effective approaches and strategies to concentrating on and remembering what to study. My note taking skills and test strategies are also relatively good. The one that shocked me the …show more content…
I like it to be completely quiet when I am studying so I need to study in places like a library or designated study spot. I plan to take advantage of the multiple libraries on campus and the study spots in the student center. I need to make sure that my phone or laptop is either off or not near me. I am easily distracted so having my phone or laptop near me causes a distraction. I also need to make sure I am taking breaks every 20-30 minutes. If I don't take breaks I end up getting overwhelmed and don't study my …show more content…
I take a lot of notes in most of my lectures so when I am studying for an exam I can see what topics the professor focused a lot on. This helps me see what main points I need to study and what minor points I can skim over. I used this skill on my last exam and it helped me get a better grade than I expected. Looking at the test questions for clues helps me understand what the question is focusing on so I can remember the exact topic and hopefully pick the correct answer. I have used this skill throughout high school and even in college. It usually works for me and helps me stay realized and focussed when taking a

Exercising My Writing Skills Writing is evolving by the day in the English language, in other words communication is evolving on the daily since writing is our main source of communication. Learning how to write the English language in an academic setting has been one of my greatest accomplishments as a scholar, despite the fact that, I am still learning new skills daily on how to improve my writing. Even though, I am not the best the writer, I have gained enough strength in my writing to separate me from the average writer. In other words, the best way to improve on something is by practicing, and that is a lesson writing papers has taught me. One of my greatest skills as a writer in my opinion is being able to expand on a topic.…

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

My experiences in SCI 195A this semester taught by Ingrid Peterson and Dina Schwartz have been nothing less than extraordinary. Being a first semester freshman at a top university, such as the University of Arizona, is a tremendous culture shock even coming from a nationally ranked college preparatory school as I did. Although college is full of opportunity, it entails legions of work! College certainly includes more responsibility such as time management, test taking strategy, and planning for the future. Each of these values (and more) were passed onto me this semester by Ingrid and Dina.…

Furthermore, I discovered that setting goals and creating a plan that incorporates a checklist is profitable for me. When comparing the computer assessment and the self-assessment, the results were somewhat similar but after much self-examination and reflection, I believe the self-assessment is a more accurate representation of my working and learning styles. I believe that I strongly exhibit several of the traits in the excite dynamic group that I feel would classify me as deliberate rather than stress…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
