Psalm 103:19 reads, “The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.” God rules over all. His kingdom is both in heaven and here on earth. It encompasses both realms in equal authority and in equal sovereignty. By reflecting on class readings and discussions, it is possible for me to write my understandings of the Kingdom of God, those things that I do not understand, how I am wrestling with them, and what the pressing needs are in the world and the Kingdom of God today.
I understand the Kingdom of God to be in the stage between the already but the not yet. This understanding is supported by Hebrews 2:8-9, which reads, “Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left …show more content…
First and foremost, the main thing I do not understand about the Kingdom of God is why God does what he does in his kingdom. There are sometimes when it is very clear what God is doing or what his plan is but there are other times when it seems as if God has lost his mind. Fundamentally, we can point to the verse Isaiah 55:8-9 to explain this, which reads, “’For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” While this is sufficient to determine why I do not always understand what God is doing, it is sometimes hard to accept that I do not know the outcome of God’s plans. I have come to learn that asking, “why?” is the wrong question and that I do not possess enough faith in God. By me asking the question, “why?” automatically assumes that I know better than God, that I think he is doing the wrong thing. As mentioned before, this is a lack of faith on my part. It is a desire to always be in control and a panic when I am not. It is one of the things I struggle with most in my …show more content…
Throughout my life, I have come to develop a strong understanding of the Kingdom of God. I have come to understand that the Kingdom of God is between the already and the not yet. Jesus already brought with him the Kingdom of God, but the fullness of the Kingdom of God has not yet been accomplished. Jesus’ first coming brought about the beginning of the end for the Kingdom of God and the fullness will not be accomplished until Jesus’ second coming. While I do understand much of the Kingdom of God, the one major thing I do not understand is why God does some of the things he does in his kingdom. Over the years, I have come to learn that I need to daily make it a priority to die to my own selfish desires to be in control and put on unconditional faith in God. While I need to daily die to myself, the world does to. The world has grown increasingly far from God and has a pressing need for the salvation that is found in Jesus. Similarly, the Kingdom of God needs people who are willing to die to themselves and follow wherever he would call them. The more extensive the Kingdom the more extensive the impact, the more people recognize the Creator of the Kingdom. As Psalm 103:19 reads, “The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over
