My Search Research Paper

The Story of my Search If it had not been for my English Composition teacher, I would have never thought about what each of my names actually meant and why it was given to me. When I was told the requirements of this paper, I went to library to begin searching information about my names. I used as many resources that were given to me, so I would have a thorough understanding of each one. In order to further extend my knowledge of my name, I began to research each name in books, websites, and personal interviews with my family.
The Results of My Search
My first name became the most interesting to me. I read through Dorothy Astoria’s The Name Book until I found my first name, Madison. According to her book, the name, Madison, derived from the Old English language and is defined as “child of a valiant warrior”, and the emotional appeal of the name can mean bravery. Although I may not be a perfect person, I always try to do the best I can to uphold fine morals. I think that this definition best describes me because I try to lead by example. According to a source, Mitchell is a derivative of the name, Michael, who is the leader of heaven’s armies and is considered “the patron saint of soldiers” (Campbell). Although most people with the surname, Mitchell, live in the eastern portion of the United States, the majority of these people appear to live in Texas and northern states (Ancestry.com). Some well-known people with the last name, Mitchell, include Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind, and Maria Mitchell, astronomer who discovered “Miss Mitchell’s Comet” (Biography.com).
