My definition of citizenship is when someone loves, respects, shares common knowledge of American culture and its history. I believe that all people should be able to have citizenship of the country they were born in; and for those that want to gain citizenship should be required to pass a citizenship exam, along with current American citizens. Individuals wanting to come to America should not only want to better their own lives, but they should also want to help better the country we live in.
I feel strongly that there are many responsibilities as an American citizen. Not only should citizens be required to vote, pay taxes, and work. Citizens should also devote a significant amount of time volunteering, and trying to make the country the best it can be; government officials can only do so much, as citizens we should all be working together to help defeat hunger, homelessness, and global warming along with many other social issues.

I greatly enjoy volunteering, which is something that I need to do more of. Volunteering helps out the community and those that are in need. Once I have finished volunteering I always feel good about myself, knowing that I helped at least one person. Types of volunteering can range from adopting a highway or park, providing meals to the hungry, organizing a food or clothing drive, along with many others.
