Reflection: Middle School

Throughout my formal education, I have always been learning about science. It began with relatively basic information regarding the solar system, weather, and other “simple” topics in elementary school. I can distinctly remember being very fond of space and wanting to learn more information in regards to it. For two consecutive years, I made a model of the solar system and gave a presentation on it to my class. Additionally, in the second grade, we took a class trip to the planetarium, which I highly regarded as the greatest day of the school year. In middle school, we transitioned in to learning about physical science. However, I mostly felt that each year the same information was being repeated and I was never acquiring any new information. My sixth grade science teacher was an extremely tough grader and did little to assist in the understanding of the material, made the subject less enjoyable for me. I recall my seventh grade class as being extraordinarily easily and taught by a teacher I really liked. The class incorporated a lot of group work and projects, which made learning the material slightly more engaging than it had been the previous year. By the end of middle school, I …show more content…
As a freshman I am working on completing a lot of general education course requirements, one of which is a science course that includes a lab; thus, I ended up in this course. However, I do find genetics to be a fairly gripping topic because I have always wondered how I came to have certain traits and what the basis for these traits were. So far, I am enjoying the class and find the way that it is structured, with both lectures and a lab, to be instrumental in helping me learn the content. Additionally, the daily quizzes are a great way for me to gauge what I know and what I still need to study and the practice tests and the study guides are very indicative of what will be on the actual
