My personality works exactly like the packet describes. I have a difficult time relaxing and need constant activities to occupy me when I have leisure time. I’m a workaholic who will work until I die. It’s hard to calm myself on weekends, I always have to be doing something. In the packet, it says that it may cause health risks when a Conscientious person is under extreme stress. I know from experience that depression and anxiety are a result. For Vigilant, I picked the Emotion and Self-Control domain. My personality is reserved, I don’t like to be messed with. I like the keep my emotions under lock and key. Being in control of my emotions means it is less likely that I will get hurt. Being in a relationship that needs constant verbal reassurance is hard for me. The Keirsey Report asked good questions to really help me think about what kind of person I really am. I concentrated on the wording of the questions, as you went further along I felt I could see the flow of the questions. Then I realized the questions were not asking me the same thing just worded differently, each question was truly different. Each question really made me question the scenario, and try to place myself in such a scenario. I would ask my 16-year-old son, and my husband what they thought and several times we had same answers.…

This test was originally created in order to see which people were type A or type B because it was shown that Type A people participated in activities or behaviors which were prone to heart attacks. On this scale I scored a 12 and compared to other college students it shows that I am above the mean of 8.4 which means that I have more Type A tendencies. This result was not surprising because people who know me have referred to me as very structured and someone who gets under a lot of stress if there is no plan for an activity of some sort. Also a question that specifically stuck out to me were the questions about problem solving because when I am under stress it is really hard for me to just sit around and do nothing I have to be productive. Also I have always been very driven and goal-oriented.…

I worked on these deep breathing exercises and positive coping statements as homework assignments just like any other of my homework assignments. The relaxation training techniques that I employed were a variation of methods that included autogenic relaxation, visualization and Yoga. When using the method of autogenic relaxation, I repeated the word relax in my mind before the stressor was introduced. Using the method of visualization I formed relaxing images that I have experienced in the past and tried to use as many senses as I could like sound, smell and touch. Such as laying on the beach listening the waves while smelling the salty wind whip threw my body.…

As you can see, this is not the first time I have experienced Keirsey as a tool for personal assessment. The interesting thing is that both recorded times I have taken this particular evaluation I ended up with the exact same conclusion of being a “Guardian”, even 5 years apart. This began in my early 20’s when I was in a very lost and troubled time and sought out guidance towards a career. The counselor I worked with had me complete a battery of tests and questionnaires to help point me in the right direction according to what my personality dictated.…
