By transparency I mean that we must be clear and open with our goals and performance expectations and this goes for both the students and the teachers. My personal approach to classroom management and discipline is to seek out in more depth the intricate dynamics that run high among most classrooms. Once we understand the inner workings, whether subtle, we have a better chance to predict outcomes. For instance, a tactic I plan to utilize one day is a rule and behavior contract. This contract will entail the expectations I have for my students and will be discussed, signed by them, as well as their parents. This is to keep the communication flowing and fair for everyone in the class. On the walls and/or board I would have a limited number of inspirational quotes and/or images along with a set of my classroom expectations front and center. The culture of my classroom would be light, fun and enjoyable to be in. I would welcome students to speak their minds critically and not feel ‘disconnected’ if their electronic devices are not in their hands, but instead a fascinating book to read. Lastly, I will not expect all the learning to take place only in the assigned classroom. If the weather supports learning outdoors it may be done from time to time.
