The idea of using content areas to teach students to problem solve in real-world situations is a benefit to students. Students must learn to apply learning to problems they will encounter outside of a school setting. For example, when students are given as an assignment in which they are placed in pairs, given cards with specific jobs, family members, and presented with different crises situations, then asked to solve them, students must use knowledge from different content areas in order to be successful. Students are responsible for budgets, health problems, childcare, and loss of income. They must use knowledge from different content areas to be successful in learning. It was interesting to see how different aspects of each philosophy influenced and shaped my beliefs about education. I seem to share more perspectives from the philosophies of Perennialism and Essentialism than Progressivism and Social Reconstructionism. However, the different pieces from each philosophy molded together, make up personal educational philosophy. My personal educational philosophy can be summed up by saying, all students have the right to be provided an education consisting of well-rounded content areas, including the four core subjects, presented with sufficient background knowledge, challenged to delve deeper in to content and connect their learning to real-life situations. School is not just about formal education, but about developing students to be contributing members of society that strive to make our world a better
