Reflective Journal: Professional Values Of A Good Mentor

The reflective journal is divided into four main points and a conclusion. The first point of the reflective journal discuss the professional values of a good mentor. Next, the priciple of interview show the importance of identify the problem and how we make decision in the project. The third point demonstrate leadership and team work is essential to the success of the project. Then I present communication and interpersonal skills . Finally, the conclusion of the reflective journal concludes with my own experience that reflect the domain of this subject.

First, this Service-Learning Project has taught me a lot about the professional values of a good mentor. As stated by Baillie and Lesley (2014), Professional values will be affected by ours

In Fosbinder’s study (1994), the model of communication in nursing include four interpersonal process which are translating, getting to know, establishing trust and going the extra mile. As our mentees are primary school student, they may not have much abilities or skills comparing to us. Therefore, we may have encount difficultly in decoding their message. So, we have to show our empathy to them which we put ourselves in the client’s place (Riley ,2014, p. 126). We have to be firendly and patience. After we have more meeting with the students, we establish trust with each other. And even we are going the extra mile that the relationship between mentors and mentees become friendship. In addition, the effective use of communication technologies help us a lot in doing the project. For example, we use a mobile application, “Whatspp” as the main media to exchange message. This method work very well that we can have discussion anytime in anywhere which make the communication more effective. As stated by Wani et al. (2013), Whatsapp can eliminate the redundant steps of vertical reporting system to have a quick communication amongst the member. To sum up, a good communciation and interpersonal skill is vital in building up relationship between mentors and mentee so that positive relationship is a key to success of the …show more content…
I can apply these knowledge to identify the problem or need to make the best decision. Then well use the communication skill to exchnage ideas among the team and sperate the tasks according to everyone abilities. Also, keep in mind that having professional value is essential to the success of
