I always thought my mother and step-father would be there to support me. After her passing my step-father abandoned my, at the time, eighteen year old sister and me. We had no jobs, or place to live. I realized, that I needed to enroll, even though I was completely unprepared. I didn 't know how to get into college, how to apply or register, what paperwork I needed to register, how I would pay my tuition bill, how to find my way to the college, how to find my way through the college. I needed to figure out what FASFA was, how it worked and how to apply. I realized I needed to become dedicated and get an education and make something of myself. I struggled, a lot, but I figured out how to get through everything my parents never showed me how to do, and weren 't there for. After time, my family helped us as much as they could but I still knew I needed to remain dedicated to gain an education so I could have a career and eventually support myself in life. I have currently completed three semesters of college now while also working to support myself. I feel as though a tragic loss, the passing of my mother helped me become more motivated to gain an education to make her proud and gain a career. This event not only changed my mindset about learning and education but about how I view
