I have always loved reading, however, I always stayed with one style of writing. Even at the recommendations of others, I never really opened myself up to new possibilities. I told myself that I knew what I liked to read and other books would not give me the same satisfaction. The book club, on the other hand, was not just about what I liked and wanted. We were there to come together as a group, in order to accomplish this, we would need the diversity. I remember when I first sat down to read "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, I had a pit of dread, how could I possibly like this book? Everything about it was different, from the way the pages felt to the old book smell. "It's now or never," I thought as I sat back on my couch and opened up the book, the smell of the brownies I had in the oven filling the air. As I got further into the first chapter, I noticed that what had started as something I wasn't looking forward to quickly became very captivating. This book was amazing, I did not want to put it down. I stayed up reading for hours after everyone else had gone to bed. I couldn't believe that I had never even considered other genres, not only did I enjoy this book, it is now my favorite! I was excited to see what other novels I would discover along this journey.
