We began our journey by driving to meet Mrs. Dvorak, the teacher of agricultural endeavors at a nearby school, at a restaurant in a town not too far away from where we live. Upon our arrival, we climbed in with Mrs. Dvorak, and she drove us out of town, down a long country road until we at least reached our destination: her parents’ ranch. Gotschall’s milking barn and explored the fascinations which it held. Mr. Gotschall described to us his system for feeding and milking his cows, which was quite intriguing. Then we tromped out to the pen where a few milk cows were, one in particular that had a sweet face with black markings, and a darling calf by her side. After observing the pair and discussing them for a time, we hiked back to a nearby shed and climbed aboard a motorized vehicle, which aided us in our traverse to see the calf’s sire. He was a dark, ominous bull who bellowed at our presence, but he seemed like a fine father, and I deemed him
