I have asked myself many times why medicine. At first, I did not know the answer or even where to begin to answer the question. Now, I truly believe that it is my faith, compassion, empathy, selflessness, and my thirst for knowledge and learning that has guided me to become a physician. Medicine is a field that is constantly changing based on research and developments in new technology. I simply want a career in which I never stop learning and to translate the knowledge I gain to a population that it will benefit.

I feel as if it is no longer enough for physicians to treat and diagnose patients. I believe that in order to effectively combat health disparities in the LGBTIQ community, physicians need to address stigma, use the empirical evidence from research to combat policies, and become a medical activist. I hope future practitioners of medicine embody these characteristics regardless of their field of study. In the end, I want to help a marginalized group of people, to inspire, to educate, and teach future
